News from the Office - Spring/Summer 2010
After School Club
Since the passing of the new year there have been some changes to the location of the After school club.
As a result both younger and older groups now have the After School club in Laburnum Hall, located next to our offices in Laburnum Court. This will most likely be the arrangement for the foreseeable future.
Oasis Adventure Playground
We are now working with the Oasis Adventure project in Wandsworth Road. Oasis Children Venture provides facilities, recreation and other leisure time activities. These additional activities are primarily for the older children.
Life Skills Project
Funding has been secured for our newest Life Skills Training programme that started at the end of January 2010.
The Project runs on Mondays and Fridays in Laburnum Hall. As part of the Life Skills programme there is a two weeks work experience element. If you feel that your teenager can benefit from this kind of training which will be accredited, please contact the office, on 0208 671 8939
Training
NVQ training has been taking place to help support our vision of higher standards for care of our service users. The training started in February and the completion date is in June 2010. We hope that three play workers will gain qualifications in Play to a level 2 standard.
Parent Trustees
We are now advertising for new Parent Trustees to sit on the committee in the coming year. We have had a very good response from some of our new members.
If you are interested please contact the office and ask for Beyit, he will send out forms and information. It is a very worthwhile post as it supports the management of the organisation, which in turn helps your child. Training support will be provided for this post. Meetings are held in the evenings, four times a year. If you would like to come along and observe a meeting before committing yourself, please feel free to do so.
For further information on the next trustee meeting please call the office and they will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Parent Forum
The parent forum meeting has now started and we would appreciate more parents taking part. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 1st June 2010, and refreshments will be provided so please come along and take part in the discussions.
In the last parent forum, a representative from Scope, Mr Sagar Vasu came and gave a talk on the services his organisation provides for complex physical impairment in young people.
If you have any suggestions or an opinion on how best we can provide and develop Lambeth Family Link and the services we provide, then the Parent forum would be the appropriate format to express them.
We would welcome feedback from our service users, so if you can find some time to be part of this group we would very much appreciate your input. Please call the office for more information.
Additionally, come along and use the relaxing massage chair before or after the forum session, to release your tension whilst listening to relaxing music of your choice.
Feedback for Events
We are calling all young people; we want to hear from you! What activities you like or dislike? How can we challenge your needs in the area of enjoying and achieving outcomes.
Help us to make the services we provide even more enjoyable for your children. Call the office for more information. MAKE THINGS HAPPEN!
We generally have places on the Teen club that are not being used. As I understand it, parents are having difficulties with transporting the children down to the sessions. We have also run into some difficulties with Team Lambeth dropping children off before the session starts. We will be piloting a longer session of Teen clubs on Saturdays, combining the two sessions into one longer session to accommodate such difficulties.
New Equipment
Lambeth Family Link is always looking to develop its services, and in that endeavour we have upgraded our server and recently purchased some new workstation computers to help us give you the best possible service.
