Teen Club - Saturdays
This is a joint project with Wandsworth Share a Family and began in June 1991. The club occurs monthly for up to 25 young people aged 12 - 17.
The aims of the Club are to encourage:
- Social activities amongst the young people without parental presence.
- Friendships across boroughs, giving the young people an opportunity to meet people they might not otherwise meet.
- Age appropriate leisure pursuits.
The Teenage Club members have printed T-shirts, made badges, played table tennis, taken part in drama workshops and have been ten-pin bowling, amongst other activities.
The Club is held in a local youth Centre on a Saturday evening to further support participation in mainstream activity.
2 Youth Workers are employed and are supported in running the Club by a team of volunteers.
The cost is usually £2 per session.
A transport service is a available for which there is no charge.
Teen Club News
The teenagers started the quarter with an outing to the ‘Get Up and Dance festival’ in Regents Park. Here, they had the opportunity to take part in classes teaching many different types of dances and take part in music workshops. All our teenagers took part in one or more of the workshops on offer.
Last month, they took part in a superheroes bowling/ fancy dress party organised under the umbrella of Daytrippers. One of our young people, Abiola Orunsola, won a prize for being the most stylish bowler. She came as cat woman: congratulations Abi!
We will start the New Year with a pantomime trip for the teenagers. They’ll be going to see Cinderella at the Unicorn Theatre. Only members who have paid the club fee and returned all paperwork (booking and consent forms) will be considered for this trip.
There is an additional family outing booked for Saturday 16th January 2009 to go see Cinderella, at the unicorn theatre. The details are yet to be confirmed, but information shall be sent out closer to the time of the event.
